World Maths Day (or World Math Day) was a smashing success. There were 2,001,570 total participants from 204 countries and a world record of 452,681,681 total questions answered in 48 hours. Congratulations, mathletes. What a wonderful math game!

Not All Video Games for Kids Are Created Equal

I’m a member of a large online community of moms where we often discuss the ups and downs of raising kids in a digital age. Recently another mom posted a question wondering if exposing kids to video games at a young age leaves them ‘no time to think’. After working with teachers and schools that are using DreamBox in the classroom I think it is dangerous to lump all 'video games' into one negative category for kids. One of the benefits of raising children today is that there are many ways that technology is advancing learning, even for very young kids.

Technology Can “Place” Students in the Curriculum More Efficiently than Parents and Teachers Can

As a teacher I often used software in the classroom. Much of this software relied on me to determine the appropriate starting place in the curriculum. Every year I’d add my class list and determine which objectives I wanted to address for each student. Often I’d do this in August as part of my preparation for the new school year, which means I hadn’t even met the kids. Plus, we all know about the loss of knowledge retention that occurs over the summer. How was I supposed to know what each student did and didn’t need?
