Kids love to talk about what they want to be when they grow up. And what classroom couldn’t use $1,000 or a free DreamBox Math Classroom?* Here are a few ideas on how teachers can enter to win the DreamBox “Dream Big” video contest!

What should the video be about?

The winners will be chosen based at least partly on creativity. So your video could be a fun classroom project — the more creative the better! (Videos should be about 2 minutes long.)

  • Your video can be as simple as each child saying what they want to be when they grow up.
  • You can have each child draw a picture or make a collage of picture cut-outs, and hold it on camera as they say what they want to be.
  • Students who have a hero in the profession the child wants to be could print their role model’s picture, and say what they want to be and the name of their hero.
  • You can enter as many videos as you want. So you could create a video of up to 2 minutes for each participating child. That way you’ll multiply your chances to win $1,000 or a DreamBox Math Classroom subscription for the 2009/2010 school year! You’ll just need to enter each video separately.

How can I create it?

If your school doesn’t have a digital video camera, here are a couple of ideas for getting help shooting your video.

  • You can send a note to parents about your classroom video project and ask for a volunteer to come in, shoot the video, and help you upload and enter it.
  • You could ask a camera store in your area to volunteer to help by coming to your classroom to shoot the video, then help you upload and enter it. You might even offer to give the store a thank you in the school or classroom newsletter.

You don’t need to send the permission forms to DreamBox, but you will need to have parental permission on file for students to appear in any video before you enter it.

Remember, the winners will be chosen based on a combination of popularity and creativity. So you’ll want to encourage people to vote for your entry online.

  • After you enter your video, be sure to send the link out to your students’ families to encourage them to vote for it! DreamBox will send you a link and easy online voting instructions that you can email to your classroom email list.
  • When you email parents, you can encourage them to send the link to their family and friends to vote too.
  • You can encourage other teachers in your school to forward the voting information to their students’ families as well.
