Playing DreamBox Learning K-2 Math for just four hours increased 2nd grade achievement test scores by 19%

In partnership with 2 public schools, 27 second graders participated in a program to play DreamBox once each school day for 2 weeks. Students were given 2 parallel paper-and-pencil tests, 1 before and 1 after the 2-week period. The tests were comparable to the achievement tests used for accountability under No Child Left Behind (NCLB), and focused on the number sense and operation curriculum emphasized by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Students demonstrated significant improvement, scoring 19% higher on the follow-up test.

DreamBox Learning K-2 Math improved scores on modules students played by 50%

In a study of 369 students, ages 4—8, who played DreamBox Learning K-2 Math 3 or more times within a 2-month period, results showed that students improved their scores on the curriculum modules they completed by an average of 50%. DreamBox has 36 modules based on the recommended objectives from the NCTM Focal Points for each grade. Based on an initial placement lesson, students skip modules where they demonstrate proficiency. So this study measures only learning gains in modules where a student required additional instruction.
