hero-10-year

DreamBox Learning was founded to reimagine learning with a new approach to learning. We wanted to delight and inspire young learners to think deeply about mathematics and love every minute of it. This year we celebrate 10 years of adapting, innovating, and collaborating to shape new possibilities in learning for all kids, regardless of where they live or who they are. Our belief in providing experiences that encourage productive struggle for learners while supporting and empowering learning guardians remains at the core of our work. It's amazing to think that we have so much more yet to do in supporting great teaching and learning. Transforming the learning experience is possible-and we can do it together. We've really only just begun. As the DreamBox story continues to evolve, please join me in writing our next chapter together.

Dreambox Learning Math is an exciting and engaging adaptive program that gets kids excited at the mere mention of it. I actually discovered DreamBox last year when my own children's school sent home the log-in information. At first I didn't really pay attention to the program until I saw how long my son was engaged with it. Once I started really looking at the math embedded in the games, I knew right away that this program was like nothing else I had ever seen. We adopted this program as part of our math station rotations and have been impressed with how it personalizes learning for every child regardless of their math level. When you walk into classrooms during math, you will see the teacher conducting small group math lessons with half the class while the other half is 100 percent engaged in DreamBox.”

“Kindergarten is challenging because you are teaching students with many different levels of school readiness. To establish a strong foundation in math and advance all of the students, I create a math environment that supports my students using lots of math manipulatives and motivating lessons. Students are taught in small groups based on their acquired levels of math concepts.  DreamBox completely supports their individual conceptual math levels and sets the pace as they move through different standards. They have also acquired superb mental math strategies that will affect their knowledge throughout their schooling, career, and beyond.”

“The most rewarding experience I have had as a teacher is seeing how technology hooks some students into learning mathematics—struggling students in particular. Sometimes it seems like a daunting task to motivate some students, and it amazes me when effective use of technology sparks a zest for learning in a child. Dreambox assesses students’ levels and adapts the assignments to meet their needs while pulling them back up to grade level.”

“One of our current challenges [at my school] is the increasing percentage of students who are considered economically disadvantaged. Currently, 58 percent of our school population falls into this category. Many of our families cannot afford technology devices for their children. Many do not have Internet in their homes. This makes it hard to incorporate technology into assignments outside of school, without further increasing the learning gap. To combat this issue, I get technology into the hands of my students as often as possible. DreamBox is one resource my students use daily. [It] engages students and is highly motivating. This allows for students who have little experience with technology to be successful.” Read more about Amy’s story here.

“With technology like DreamBox, we give students 24/7 access to quality instruction. It allows students to continue learning on snow days and summer vacation and have that instruction meet their individual needs and pace. Technology helps teachers to meet all of the demands that come with education.”

“Seeing students make connections in their learning is the most rewarding part [of my job]. Our biggest challenge, however, is not enough time! We use every minute by targeting students to participate in before-school intervention, using DreamBox as a component. Now that we are a 1:1 school, most students may use their iPad or Chromebook in the hallways each morning before school while waiting for the bell to ring. What used to be just time spent waiting is now time spent learning with DreamBox!”

“DreamBox has been so successful that we will be implementing the program district-wide next year. Teachers who have been using the program with fidelity have shared that their students’ mathematical reasoning and concepts have transferred to their core lessons. Their students are achieving at a higher level than before they used DreamBox in their classrooms. DreamBox makes learning visible to all students regardless of their backgrounds and socioeconomic status. We have also had a lot of success with our Spanish-speaking students. DreamBox has given us an opportunity to make them feel successful from the start. Teachers have also benefited since they can find out where and what knowledge these students come to us with. It’s exciting to see students using math content that’s adapted to each of their individual instructional levels.”

“I worked with a young man [a third grader] whose teacher explained to me was pulled out for special services and was working with numbers to ten, which is a Kindergarten standard. A month later, I was visiting the teacher and another group of third graders using DreamBox as part of their after-school tutoring program for extending the school day. I was thrilled to see this same young man working so competently and confidently with DreamBox. He was working on ideas in multiplication!  He was so excited to share with me what he was doing. As I watched him, I realized that with solid classroom instruction and access to DreamBox as additional support, he had made huge gains in his mathematical understanding. Indeed, he was able to work with building an understanding of numbers while also working with ideas in multiplication. In essence, he was working on multiple “landscapes” at the same time and building understanding on both. That’s when I realized the power of quality instruction with quality digital tools can enhance and expand instructional opportunities. It was building a relationship between the two, focused on the student that made all the difference.”

“Education is my passion, and I’m lucky that I also get to pursue it as my career. My students are my world. I learn, laugh, cry, and celebrate with each of them. Being a teacher comes through the relationships I build with my students. Gaining their respect and trust is the first step in having authentic learning experiences with them. DreamBox gives me great feedback on the progress of students. I am able to work in small groups to give instruction to best fit their needs, and I can trust that DreamBox is also giving excellent instruction to my students who are working independently.”

“I work with grades K-5 and within each grade level you have your own challenges. We have had grades that as a whole were showing low scores in mathematics. With those challenges we have implemented 1:1, small group, and additional push-in support. We evaluate weekly our kids using DreamBox reports so that our plans are moving and changing with the child. DreamBox has allowed us to do this by really allowing us to look at the reports, see what standards are missing, and work on those areas. We use Dreambox to guide our small group work, which the then allows us to make sure those students have understanding of concrete mathematical concept and also a real-world concept. It is just as important that students can apply this to the world around them.” Read more about Anna’s story here.
