Here’s what you could win in the DreamBox “Dream Big” video contest
DreamBox Learning is committed to helping kids achieve their dreams. Tell us what your
kids want to be when they grow up!
- One Grand Prize winner will receive a $1,000 (in US dollars)
- Five families will win a 6-month DreamBox Learning K-2 Math subscription (a $59.90
value)
- Three classrooms will win a 2009/2010 DreamBox Math Classroom license (for up to
24 students, a $1,200 value)
- Every family that enters wins a free 1-month trial of DreamBox Learning K-2 Math!
Guidelines for your video
- Your child should explain what he or she wants to be when they grow up, and why!
- Videos should be no more than 2 minutes long
- Video files must be no more than 100 MB
- You can enter as many videos as you want. (Enter here.)
Here’s how the videos will be judged
- Videos will be judged on a combination of popularity, creativity, and a compelling
story. The videos that get the most votes in each category (family and classroom) will
be finalists from which a panel of independent judges will select the winners.
- The winner will be notified on approximately December 15, 2009
- The winner must then respond to any email from DreamBox within 7 days. If the winner
doesn’t respond within that period, we reserve the right to disqualify that
winner and select a new one in a second-chance random drawing from the finalists, in
our discretion.
Here are the rules for the DreamBox video contest
- Anyone can enter, either as a family or a classroom.
- You may enter as many videos as you want, but each must be entered separately.
- You must be 18 years or older to enter.
- No purchase or payment is necessary to enter or win. A purchase will not improve your
chances of winning.
- Enter online at www.dreambox.com/dreambigvideo, and follow the simple directions on
how to submit your entry.
- Videos must not include the name of any child in the title or description.
General rules
- Each video must be the original work of the entrant and must be owned by the
entrant. Modifying, enhancing, or altering a third party’s pre-existing
work does not qualify as entrant’s original work.
- Videos must be in keeping with DreamBox Learning’s family-friendly image and
may not be offensive, as determined by DreamBox in its sole discretion, nor can
they defame or invade publicity rights or privacy rights of any person, living or
deceased, or otherwise infringe upon any person’s personal or proprietary
rights.
- Entries that don’t include the required information will not be accepted.
- Videos that includes the likeness of a third party or that contain elements not
owned by the entrant (including, but not limited to, trademarks or logos) may be
required to provide a legal release for such use, including DreamBox
Learning’s use of this video, in a form satisfactory to DreamBox.
- In order to complete your entry, you must check the check box to acknowledge that:
(i) the video you submitted is your own original work; (ii) each is solely owned
by you; (iii) you are giving DreamBox Learning permission to use the video in the
contest; and (iv) you have obtained permission to submit this video from any people
depicted in the video.
- The contest begins at 12:00:00 a.m. PDT on 9/10/2009.
- The contest ends at 11:59:59 p.m. PDT on 11/30/2009.
- Open to legal residents of the 50 United States/DC (other than Rhode Island), who
have reached the legal age of majority.
- DreamBox Learning’s computer is the official time-keeping device for the
contest. There may be different graphics and presentations of this contest under
the same prize structure.
- In the event of a dispute regarding any video, that video will be disqualified.
- DreamBox is not responsible for technical, hardware, software or telephone
malfunctions of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed,
incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications
caused by the user or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or
utilized in this contest or by any human error which may occur in the processing
of the online entries in this contest.
- DreamBox reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual
that tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the
contest or web site; violates the official rules; or acts in an unsportsmanlike or
disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other
person. Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate
operation of the contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should
such an attempt be made, DreamBox reserves the right to seek damages from any such
person to the fullest extent permitted by law. DreamBox Learning’s failure
to enforce any term of these official rules shall not constitute a waiver of that
provision.
- DreamBox reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify
or suspend the contest if it is not capable of running as planned, including, but
not limited to, infection by computer virus, tampering, unauthorized intervention,
fraud, technical failures or any other problems beyond the control of DreamBox and
award prizes from among all eligible online Entries received prior to cancellation.
- DreamBox and its respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, and employees
will have no liability or responsibility for any claim arising in connection with
participation in this contest or any prize awarded. Winners assume all liability
for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, by participation in this
contest or use or redemption of any prize.
Prizes
- PRIZES: One $1,000 cash prize (in US dollars); Five (5) 6-month DreamBox Learning
K-2 Math subscriptions (ARV each $59.90); Three (3) 2009/2010 DreamBox Math
Classroom license (ARV each $1,200)
- No royalties, financial or other compensation will be made for any other use of a
video, whether or not DreamBox uses the video.
- Odds of winning a prize depend on the number of eligible entries received.
- By participating in this contest, entrants agree to be bound by the official rules
and the decisions of the judges.
- Winners will be notified by email. Prize will be distributed within 6-8 weeks of
the winner being confirmed.
- Return of any prize or prize notification by email as undeliverable may result
in disqualification and alternate determination, in DreamBox Learning’s sole
discretion.
- No substitutions or cash equivalents are allowed except by DreamBox, which
reserves the right to award a prize of equal or greater value if the prize is not
available for any reason as determined by DreamBox in its sole discretion.
- All finalists will be required to execute and return an Affidavit of
Eligibility/Release of Liability/Assignment of Rights/Publicity Release (where
legal) within 7 days of notification attempt or prize will be forfeited and an
alternate winner will be determined by DreamBox.
- Taxes, if any, related to the prize are the responsibility of the individual
winners.
- No responsibility or liability is assumed for damages, losses or injury resulting
from acceptance or use of any prize.
- All other expenses and costs not expressly listed above are the winner’s
sole responsibility.
- Winners will need to accept standard terms of use relating to the subscriptions
and the classroom license, as applicable.
- Limit one prize per household and classroom.

Release
- By participating, entrants agree to the official rules and the decisions of
DreamBox and the judges, which will be final and binding in all respects. The
winner will be notified by e-mail. Entrants acknowledge and agree that any
tangible materials provided to DreamBox will become the property of the DreamBox,
and all intellectual property rights in and to videos are licensed to DreamBox
under the terms set forth in these rules.
- By submitting a video entry, you grant DreamBox, its affiliates, subsidiaries,
assigns, licensees, and legal representatives an exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual,
royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, edit, market, store, distribute,
have distributed, publicly and privately display, communicate, publicly and
privately perform, transmit, have transmitted, create derivative works based upon,
promote the video (as such may be edited and modified by DreamBox in its sole
discretion) for editorial, commercial, promotional and all other purposes; except
that (i) on September 10, 2010, the license granted above will become non-exclusive,
and (ii) the rights granted by the entrant to YouTube in connection with the
initial submission of the video as a means of entry is not deemed to breach the
exclusive nature of the license granted above. In addition, you hereby assign to
DreamBox all rights, titles, and interests that you may be deemed to have in any
reproduction, product, or derivative work using or incorporating the video. You
represent and warrant that: (i) the entry does not and shall not infringe on any
copyright or any other third party right nor violate any applicable law or
regulation, (ii) you have the right to grant any and all necessary rights and
licenses provided herein, including without limitation, all necessary copyright
and other related rights to the entry free and clear of all claims and encumbrances
without violating the rights of any person or entity, including any right to
privacy or publicity. You hereby hold DreamBox harmless from and against any third
party claim arising from use of the entry. You waive any right to inspect or
approve uses of the entry. You hereby represent and warrant that you have read
these rules and are fully familiar with its contents.
- Acceptance of any prize constitutes permission to use winner’s name and
likenesses and video entry without further compensation, except where prohibited
by law and as otherwise provided herein. No information regarding video entries
or judging will be disclosed. DreamBox respects your privacy. Read our privacy
policy.
- Entries and any materials submitted in connection with such Entries will not be
returned to participant.
- Void where prohibited.
Eligibility
- Open to residents of the 50 U.S. states/DC, who are 18 years of age or older as
of 9/10/2009.
- Employees of DreamBox Learning, Inc., its agencies, distributors, subsidiaries,
service providers, advertising and promotion agencies and affiliated companies,
participating advertisers and media, employees, their immediate family members
and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible. Immediate
family member is defined as husband, wife, children, mother, father, sister,
sister in-law, brother or brother in-law.
- This offer is void wherever prohibited and subject to all federal, state and
local laws.
Limitations of liability
DREAMBOX AND ITS AGENTS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST, LATE, DAMAGED, MISDIRECTED,
ILLEGIBLE, INCOMPLETE, OR MUTILATED ENTRIES, OR FOR ANY COMPUTER, ONLINE, TELEPHONE
OR TECHNICAL MALFUNCTIONS, DELAYS OR HUMAN ERRORS THAT OCCUR IN THE PROCESSING,
TRANSMISSION OR RECEIPT OF ENTRIES, OR FOR INACCURATE TRANSCRIPTION OF ENTRY INFORMATION,
OR FOR ENTRIES THAT ARE STOLEN, MISDIRECTED, GARBLED, LOST OR DELAYED BY COMPUTER
TRANSMISSIONS, OR IF FOR ANY REASON, THE CONTEST IS NOT CAPABLE OF BEING CONDUCTED AS
PLANNED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO INFECTION BY COMPUTER VIRUSES, BUGS, TAMPERING,
UNAUTHORIZED INTERVENTION, FRAUD, TECHNICAL FAILURES, OR OTHER CAUSES BEYOND THE CONTROL
OF SPONSOR. SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT AT ITS SOLE DISCRETION TO CANCEL, TERMINATE,
MODIFY OR SUSPEND THE CONTEST. SPONSOR IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INCORRECT OR INACCURATE
ENTRY INFORMATION WHETHER CAUSED BY INTERNET USERS OR BY ANY OF THE EQUIPMENT OR
PROGRAMMING ASSOCIATED WITH OR UTILIZED IN THE CONTEST OR BY ANY TECHNICAL OR HUMAN
ERROR THAT MAY OCCUR IN THE PROCESSING OF THE ENTRIES IN THE CONTEST.
Choice of law; venue
Any disputes in connection with this Contest will be resolved in the appropriate courts
in King County in the state of Washington in the U.S., exclusively, and subject to the
laws of the state of Washington. Should there be a conflict between the laws of the state
of Washington and any other laws, the conflict will be resolved in favor of the laws of
the state of Washington.
Winners
The name of the Grand Prize winner, if any, will be posted on the DreamBox Learning
website no later than December 15, 2009. In addition, the name of all the prize winners
can be found by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to DreamBox Who Do You Want To
