The Mathemagician on Why Math Matters (and Other Cool Ideas)
The “mathemagician” — professor Arthur Benjamin of Harvey Mudd College— was on Stephen Colbert recently. This guy is so great! Look at his face while he is talking about math. It is enough to be convinced that math is something fun; he brings inspiration while he is talking.
Not only is he absolutely amazing at mental math, he answered Colbert’s question “Why does math matter? Because Americans have a long tradition of believing that math is hard and boring.”
I imagine Arthur getting in a classroom with children classified at “the bottom of the educational system”. After taking his class those kids would blow away all state standards.
