5 + 7 = 12 total stamps. Dividing 12 by 2 boys gives 6 stamps each.

2. Ginny checks out 9 books. Matteo checks out three times as many. How many does Matteo check out?

Three times as many as 9 means 9 × 3 = 27.

3. Bella has $20. She buys 7 cookies at $2 each. How much change does she get?

7 × $2 = $14. $20 − $14 = $6 change.

4. An animal shelter has 5 dogs and 3 birds. How many legs are there in total?

Dogs have 4 legs: 5 × 4 = 20. Birds have 2 legs: 3 × 2 = 6. Total = 26.

5. An acute angle is less than 90°, and an obtuse angle is greater than 90°.

By definition, acute angles are less than 90°, and obtuse angles are greater than 90°.

6. A sandbox is 11 feet long and 6 feet wide. What is its area?

Area = length × width. 11 × 6 = 66 square feet.

7. A triangle has sides 4 in, 4 in, and 7 in. What type is it?

An isosceles triangle has exactly two equal sides.

8. ½ is less than ¼.

One-half is larger than one-quarter.

9. Shane ate ⅜ of a pizza and his dad ate 2/8. How much did they eat together?

⅜ + 2/8 = 5/8.

10. A toy costs $5.83 and another costs $13.50. What is the total?

$5.83 + $13.50 = $19.33.

11. Which is greater: 6.78 or 6.81?

Both have 6 ones, but 8 tenths is greater than 7 tenths.

12. What is the expanded form of 45,922?

Each digit is written according to its place value.

13. What is the expanded form of 7,541?

7 thousands + 5 hundreds + 4 tens + 1 one.

14. What number matches this expanded form: 500,000 + 60,000 + 7,000 + 100 + 8?
